SANILAC COUNTY, MI – At approximately 12:30pm on November 3rd, 2014 Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 911 call of a pickup truck and a tractor personal injury accident on North Van Dyke Road near Mushroom Road in Lamotte Township.
Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Lamotte Fire/Rescue and Marlette Ambulances were dispatched.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies investigation indicates that 1998 Dodge Pickup driven by a 60-year-old female of Cass City was traveling north on Van Dyke Rd following a large tractor hauling a manure tank.
The driver of the pickup truck attempted to pass the tractor at which time the tractor and trailer turned West causing the two vehicles to collide. The pickup truck struck the rear tractor tire causing damage to her vehicle.
The female was transported to Marlette hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The driver of the tractor being a 30-year-old male, who was working for Vanrijn Dairy out of Deford, MI. was not injured and was taken into custody after deputies were advised from U.S. Border Patrol that he was an illegal immigrant and was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The traffic crash was a result of the tractor driver failing to maintain equipment on the trailer by not having his tail lights and blinkers cleaned off to be visually seen from the rear.
The female driver was wearing her seat belt and alcohol is not a factor by either driver.
