Fatal House Fire in Grand Rapids Kills Disabled Man


KENT COUNTY, MI – A fatal house fire has taken the life of a disabled 60-year-old man.house fire

On November 2nd, 2014 at 10:45pm the Kent County Sheriff’s Department were called to investigate a fatal house fire at 485 S. Amber Drive SE in Gaines Township.




A neighbor had noticed flames coming from a neighbors mobile home and called 911.

When Kent County Deputies arrived they were notified that a handicapped male was still in the home.  Deputies tried to gain access but were driven back by the smoke, heat and flames.

A short time later Cuttlerville Fire Fighter made entry into the home that was fully engulfed in flames.  It was at that time that they removed the victim, 60-year-old, Joseph Feyen.

EMS paramedics provided CPR to revive the victim but were not successful.  Mr. Feyen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Team were present on the scene and are continuing to determine the cause of the blaze.

The fire remains under investigation.
