Seats Belts Credited with Saving Lives in Sanilac County Head-on Crash

SANILAC COUNTY, MI – The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two vehicle personal injury accident that occurred at the intersection of M-53 and French Line Road in Marlette Township.police

On Thursday, November 06, 2014 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call reporting the accident.

The investigation revealed that a 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 61-year-old Marlette woman attempted to make a left turn from French Line Road onto M-53 when she pulled out into the path of a northbound 2008 Saturn Vue driven by a 25-year-old woman from Bad Axe.

She had failed to see a northbound vehicle that was behind another northbound pickup truck and pulled onto M-53.

The two vehicles struck head on. The Bad Axe woman had her one year old son in the back seat who was treated on scene by Marlette EMS for minor injuries.

Deputies credit the proper use of seat belts, a child restraint seat and air bag deployment for the occupants only sustaining minor injuries.

Alcohol is not a factor in this crash and the Marlette woman was issued a citation for the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Marlette Police Department and Marlette EMS.
