House Fire in Kent County leads to Murder Victim

BYRON TOWNSHIP, MI – On Friday, November 7th, 2014, at about 1:30 a.m., the Kent County Sheriff Department Dispatch Center received a call from a citizen saying there was a house fire at 83 Jonquil Avenue, Cutlerville, MI.

Kent County Sheriff Deputies arrived, opened the door and were unable to enter the home due to the heavy fire and smoke.

The fire department arrived shortly after to put out the fire. They entered the residence finding a male subject in a chair dead.

The scene was secured and Sheriff Deputies were notified of the discovery.

An autopsy was completed this morning and the cause of death was determined to be homicide.

The victim was identified to be Richard Lee Priebe, 50-years-old.  Priebe suffered a stab wound to the neck.  It was also determined that Richard Priebe was murdered prior to the fire being set.
