Jaws of Life used in Head-on Crash on M-32 in Alpena

ALPENA, MI – A head-on auto accident at M-32 and Lake Winyah Road in Alpena has sent one driver to Saginaw St. Mary’s Hospital and the other to jail.Lake Winyah and M-32, Alpena, Michigan

The crash happened on November 7th, 2014 around 10pm between a 1999 Chevy Astro van driven by a 28-year-old Alpena man and a 60-year-old woman from Atlanta who was driving a 2009 Nissan Cube.

According to the Alpena Sheriff’s Department, a 1999 Chevy Astro van driven by the 28-year-old man turned left in front of a 2009 Nissan Cube driven by the 60-year-old woman when the accident occurred.

The woman sustained multiple, life threatening, injuries and had to be removed from her vehicle by the jaws of life.

She was transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center by EMS.  She was then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.

The 28-year-old male was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, and cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The Alpena County Sheriff’s Department, the Alpena City Police Department and the Alpena Township Fire Department provided assistance to those involved.
