WATERFORD, MI – Jake Hershberger, 22-years-old, was murdered during a home invasion early Saturday morning in front of his girlfriend.
Police say that Jake was shot to death after trying to defend his girlfriend while one of the armed gunman was holding a weapon to her head during the robbery.
Hershberger died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Jake Hershberger died at the scene.
According to reports, the death took place at 5am Saturday morning at a residence in the 7000 block on Villa Drive, west of South Hospital Road, in Waterford Township.
It is believed that Hershberger knew at least one of the gunmen. Police have in custody three suspects. Those three will face a judge today, November 11th, 2014 for arraignment.
Investigators are looking to see if drugs may have played a motivating factor to this senseless murder.

Jacob Michael Hershberger was born in Pontiac, Michigan on January 7th, 1992 to Michael Todd Hershberger and Tonya Lynne Hershberger (nee: Braden) and died November 8th, 2014 in Waterford, Michigan while defending his girlfriend Brittany Ramirez and his home from armed intruders.
He is survived by his parents and his step-mother Rhonda Hershberger. Also survived by his daughter Olivia Hershberger and two sisters Kendra Cach and Mikayla Hershberger.
Grandson of Dennis McMichael and Sharon McMichael, Diane Lloyd and the late Charles Hershberger. Nephew of Heather, Shari, Sonya, Brian and Dawn.
Also survived by many cousins and friends, and the mother of his child Jill Carbary and her mother Judy Carbary.
