Suspected Killers in Kent County Murder-Arson Arrested

BYRON TOWNSHIP, MI – The following individuals were charged in connection with the homicide of Richard Priebe.

Roger Alan Davis, 43 years old, homeless




  • Homicide – Felony Murder
  • Homicide – Open Murder
  • Robbery – Armed
  • Conspiracy to Robbery – Armed
  • Second Degree Arson
  • Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Notice

On November 10, 2014, Roger was arraigned by Judge Smolenski in the 63rd District Court and is currently lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility with no bond.

John Mark Liebek, 44 years old, homeless

  • Robbery – Armed
  • Conspiracy to Robbery – Armed
  • Financial Transaction Device – Stealing/Retaining without Consent
  • Financial Transaction Device – Possession
  • Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense Notice

John is in custody and will be arraigned in Kent County at a later date because he is currently in Missaukee County on an unrelated charge. John’s bond will be set when he is arraigned.

On Friday, November 7th, 2014, at about 1:30 a.m., the Kent County Sheriff Department Dispatch Center received a call from a citizen saying there was a house fire at 83 Jonquil Avenue, Cutlerville, MI.

Kent County Sheriff Deputies arrived, opened the door and were unable to enter the home due to the heavy fire and smoke.

The fire department arrived shortly after to put out the fire. They entered the residence finding a male subject in a chair dead.

The scene was secured and Sheriff Deputies were notified of the discovery.

An autopsy was completed this morning and the cause of death was determined to be homicide.

The victim was identified to be Richard Lee Priebe, 50-years-old.  Priebe suffered a stab wound to the neck.  It was also determined that Richard Priebe was murdered prior to the fire being set.
