According to Sheriff Garry Biniecki, Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 6:53 p.m. on November 17th, 2014 regarding a male subject being run over by an unknown vehicle.

Deputies responded to the scene and found a deceased male in the field with extensive injuries.

The initial investigation shows that a 2007 Kenworth Semi-Truck with two trailers was stationary in the field waiting to be loaded with sugar beets.

Sometime while the vehicle was stationary, Rusty Kiehl, a 52 year-old male, from Jackson MI, exited his semi-truck and walked between the two trailers of the 2007 Kenworth Semi-Truck being operated by James Siewert, 46-year-old man, from Bad Axe.

The driver, James Siewert, who was unaware that Kiehl had walked between his trailers, then began to move forward to be loaded with sugar beets.

It was at that time Rusty Kiehl was run over by the rear trailer and drug for several yards resulting in fatal injuries. As the truck turned around the subject operating the loader noticed the victim lying in the field. The accident remains under investigation; alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Sanilac EMS, Deckerville Fire Department, Tuscola Co. Sheriff’s Office and the Bad Axe Police Department.
