Kalamazoo, MI – Kalamazoo Public Safety was recently awarded the Community Partnership Award for outstanding community relations, customer oriented service, and non-traditional engaged problem solving by the Vistelar Group.
Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers have always held, in high regard, the value of providing strong, efficient, traditional police and fire services. The pillars of the public safety profession encompass crime reduction, fire suppression, critical medical response, and providing a safe environment wherein citizens and businesses may thrive. Over the past year, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers have placed an additional emphasis on non-conventional police/citizen interaction that focuses on building faith and trust between officers and the community that we serve.
Within these new initiatives, officers have embraced the goal of making personal contact at each household and business to speak with as many citizens as possible. Officers strive to solicit feedback, hear concerns, and most importantly put a face with the badge to foster and enhance lasting and trusting personal relationships. Officers will continue to conduct these personal contacts in an effort to narrow the divide that often exists today between public safety professionals and some members of the communities they serve.
In November of 2014 the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety received the Community Partnership Award from the Vistelar Group, located in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The Vistelar Group is a global speaking and training organization focused on addressing the spectrum of human conflict. Vistelar Group clients include all organizations where human conflict has a high prevalence, within business, healthcare, education, public safety and government. Kalamazoo Public Safety was recognized due to their initiatives resulting in excellence in community relations and conflict resolution.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award. We are proud of the work that the members of our department do, particularly the effort that they put forth to foster and build personal relationships with the citizens who we serve. We’ll continue to work diligently, in partnership with the community, to keep Kalamazoo safe and vibrant,” said Captain Jim Mallery.
