ALLEGAN TOWNSHIP, MI -Police have arrested the 22-year-old father of 3-month-old Jase Joseph Colby.
Jonathan Joseph Colby, 22-years-old, was arrested Wednesday night and will be charged in his infant son’s death.
Deputies with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence on Starlight Drive in Allegan Township on December 3rd, 2014 at around 1:25 am after a call was made to 911 reporting a 3 month old baby was unresponsive and not breathing.
Deputies arrived prior to EMS and took over CPR on Jase Joseph Colby, 3-months-old, which was being preformed by the mother.
Deputies were advised that EMS was still a few minutes away so they continued CPR and transported the infant to the Allegan General Hospital Emergency Room. Once at the hospital the baby was pronounced deceased.
A Detective with the Sheriff’s Office was called out to begin an investigation.
An autopsy determined that the baby boy did not die as a result of natural causes. He died apparently from blunt force trauma to the head from blows that he endured at the hands of his drunk and high father.
According to police documents, Jonathan admitted to hitting his son several times in the head with his hand while he was drunk and on drugs because the baby would not stop crying.
Detectives continued to investigate, along the Children Protective Services, into the baby’s death. This investigation identified a suspect in the case and as a result of this investigation an arrest has been made.
Jonathan Colby was lodged last night in the Allegan County Jail. Detectives will be meeting with the Prosecutor’s Office today to obtain an arrest warrant.
Colby is expected to be arraigned on December 5th, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
