Arrest Made after Vehicle Pursuit in Portage


PORTAGE, MI – On December 4th, 2014 at 1:00 a.m., Portage Department of Public Safety officers attempted to arrest a subject in Milham Meadow Apartments near Oakland Drive and Milham Road.police chase

The suspect, a 22-year-old male Kalamazoo resident, had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. When officers made contact with the suspect, he fled in a 1999 Oldsmobile passenger car.




Officers pursued the vehicle northbound on Oakland Drive into Kalamazoo, and the pursuit ended near Howard Street. Officers located the vehicle a short time later at Oakland Drive and Grant Street after it had struck a tree and the suspect had fled on foot.

There were two other occupants in the vehicle, and no one was injured in the crash.

Officers and a K-9 from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety assisted in locating and arresting the suspect. He was found hiding underneath a car by the tracking dog near Davis and Austin Street.

The suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail pending charges for fleeing and eluding police.
