Emmet County Sheriff warns of Real Estate Scam

EMMET COUNTY, MI – Emmet County Sheriff Pete Wallin is warning citizens of a growing real estate scam in their area. scam-alert

Sheriff Wallin states, “The suspect will attempt to sell or rent the victim a home using information obtained from Craigslist.”

They ask for the victim to send either first month’s rent or a down payment through an electronic service such as Western Union.

Sheriff Wallin states, “If you are inquiring about a rental or home for sale, please check with the company or home owner directly for details.” There are various ways to check the legitimacy of a listing by searching your county equalization website. As the old saying goes and still holds true today, “If it is too good to be true, then it probably is.”
