TRAVERSE CITY, MI – At 12:10 p.m., the Kingsley Middle School received information that an upset parent may be coming to the school to pick up his child.
Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the school to assure the safety of those at the school.
Additional deputies were able to locate the parent several miles away near his residence.
The man was unarmed and gave no information that would allow a detention or arrest by deputies. The school was in lock down until 1:20 p.m.
At approximately 3 p.m., the parent, a 38-year-old Kingsley man, arrived at the Kingsley Middle School and entered the front office area. A deputy, who was at the school, made contact with the man.
The man refused several commands, including repeated requests to remove his hands from his pockets. As the deputy attempted to check the man for weapons, the subject began to resist and fight with the deputy. The man was subdued and arrested for Resisting and Obstructing Police and Disorderly Conduct.
He was taken to the Grand Traverse County Jail. No weapons were found on the man.
