White SUV sought in connection to death of Ingham County Deputy

LANSING, MI – Michigan State Police have taken over the investigation concerning the vehicle accident that killed Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Whitaker.Deputy Grant Whitaker

Deputy Grant Whitaker was killed in the line of duty while in pursuit of a suspect vehicle on Sunday, December 7th, 2014.

It is known that the vehicle that Whitaker and another officer were in pursuit of is a white SUV.

At 2:11am Deputy Grant William Whitaker, 25-years-old, and another patrol car were pursuing a vehicle eastbound on Dexter Trail about a mile east of M-52 when Whitaker’s patrol vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

Grant Whitaker is the second Ingham County sheriff’s deputy to die in the line of duty. Sgt. Paul Cole, 40, died in car crash on Oct. 6, 1996, when he swerved to avoid a herd of deer running in front of his vehicle.
