HALE, MI – An arrest has been made in the Thanksgiving Day hit & run of an Amish buggy in Hale.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. on M-65 near Old State Road in Reno Township.
The buggy was occupied by a family of four including a two year-old toddler and a four month-old baby. The buggy was clearly marked with lighting and reflectors.
The four people inside of the buggy were taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities were able to determine the vehicle involved in the crash was a black Oldsmobile Alero. After searching through four counties, troopers located the suspect’s vehicle on December 3rd, 2014.
Troopers from the West Branch Post then found and interviewed the suspect.
According to the Michigan State Police, Clinton Allen Thayer Jr. hit the horse drawn buggy injuring the four people inside. Thayer then allegedly fled the scene.
Thayer has charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident pending.
