Shelby Township Bicyclist struck by Semi dies

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI – A bicyclist was struck and killed on December 10th, 2014 at 23 Mile near Schoenherr around 4:00am.police

A 62-year-old Chesterfield Township man died early Wednesday morning when he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer while riding his bicycle on 23 Mile Road.

Investigators state that the truck was going at or just under the posted speed limit – about 40-45 mph.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to the release.

The truck was traveling westbound on 23 Mile Road when it struck the bicyclist.  The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene due to significant injuries that he sustained.

Officials believe he was riding to work at the time of the accident.

Information on the bicyclist was not released pending notification of family.
