Macomb County Teens could face Child Porn Charges

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – Four 17-year-old boys, who are students at L’Anse Creuse High School North, could be facing child pornography charges.L'Anse Creuse High School North

Once again teenagers from yet another high school could face child porn charges after a photo was posted to Twitter of a 15-year-old girl involved in a sex act.

The teenage boys could face very adult charges of distribution of child pornography.

The photo reportedly was taken without the young girls knowledge.  Police say the person who took the photo could be charged with producing child pornography, while those who shared them could be charged with distributing child pornography because the 15-year-old is a minor.

School administrators were made aware of the investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department.  School authorities state that the incident took place after school and off district property.

Authorities caution that anyone who produces photos of minors involved in sex acts, possesses or shares them could face criminal charges because the participants in the alleged sex act are underage.

Teenagers need to realize that they can go to jail or prison, face very steep fines, be required to attend sex offender counseling and be required to have their personal information placed on the Sex Offender Registry for any number of years up to life.

Parents need to educate their children about this very issue because teens are putting their futures at risk.

In September of 2014, multiple students were investigated from Grandville High School in Wyoming, Michigan after sexually explicit pictures allegedly involving Grandville High School students surfaced on social media.

The pictures allegedly showed two individuals involved in a sexual act with several others standing nearby watching. The posts ignited a firestorm online with hundreds of thousands of tweets and responses that went viral very quickly.

And then again in October of 2014, thirty one students from Rochester Adams High School were involved in a sexting investigation.  All of the students involved were under 16 years old and go to either Rochester Adams High School or Van Hoosen Middle School.  Twenty-four girls and seven boys were involved.

According to a number of independent, national surveys, approximately 25% of all teenagers have sent an explicit photo of himself or herself to a friend or stranger. Given current trends, it is likely that these statistics will continue to increase in the future. The vast majority of kids are sexting someone that they know at school and have interactions with on a daily basis.
