NEWBERG, TOWNSHIP, MI – The Cass County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating an armed robbery that took place on M-60 East of Jones at the Marathon gas station in Cass County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday December 10th, 2014 at approximately 2:45pm. An armed gunman entered the store demanding money from a cashier behind the counter. After this the suspect fled the scene, employees at the store were able to obtain a description of the vehicle and direction of travel.
Then on Friday, December 12th, 2014 at approximately 10:30pm the same cashier was working when they noticed a suspicious vehicle matching the vehicle involved in the robbery from two days prior and immediately called 911 to report the situation while a customer confronted a subject in the parking lot hiding near the corner of the store. The suspicious subject immediately left the area and fled in the vehicle that had been observed by cashier.
Officers of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to investigate and collect evidence. A short time later a vehicle matching was located by Cassopolis Police Department at a business.
Contact was made with the occupants by both Cassopolis Police and Sheriff Deputies. Investigation continued into the situation and consequently three subjects were arrested and lodged at the Cass County Jail for Conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of unregistered hand gun and possession of methamphetamine.
All three subjects are from the Elkhart, Indiana area.
