DETROIT, MI – Detroit Police are still trying to piece together what happened and why in a deadly chase.
One person, a female is dead, 4 others injured – which includes a 9-year-old boy. The white Ford Taurus is split in two and wrapped around a tree. The jaws of life had to be used to extricate some of the occupants of the vehicle. The accident scene is horrific.
It started on Warren Avenue near Outer Drive when the driver blew through two red lights on Detroit’s east side. It ended in a crash on Courville Street near Outer Drive. Authorities state that speeds did not reach over 53 miles per hour. The drive of the sedan was traveling faster when he swerved to miss an on-coming vehicle. He then hit a bump in the road, over corrected and lost control of the vehicle.
The driver is in critical condition and two men, 18 and 19 years old, are in temporary serious condition. The 9-year-old boy is in serious condition. He has two broken legs.
Police did find what appear to be narcotics in the car. They are uncertain if this is why the driver fled. Authorities are also checking to see of he had any outstanding warrants for his arrest. The car does not appear stolen.
