STOCKBRIDGE, MI – A suspect has been arrested and arraigned in the death of Ingham County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Whitaker.
John C. Kelsey II, a 34-year-old Stockbridge man, has been arraigned in 55th District Court in Ingham County on charges relating to the pursuit that resulted in the death of Deputy Whitaker.
Deputy Grant Whitaker was killed in the line of duty while in pursuit of a suspect vehicle on Sunday, December 7th, 2014.
At 2:11am Deputy Grant William Whitaker, 25-years-old, was pursuing a vehicle eastbound on Dexter Trail about a mile east of M-52 when his patrol vehicle left the road and struck a tree.
John Kelsey was arrested on Friday, December 19th, 2014. He has been charged with:
- 1st degree fleeing/eluding causing death (felony)
- Operating a vehicle while suspended/revoked causing death (felony)
He has a prior criminal history of fleeing and eluding, two drug charges, and misdemeanor resisting and obstructing arrest.
His bond has been set at $1 million.
