GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids Police Department has put out the help wanted sign.
They are seeking to hire Police Dispatchers. This is technical and highly responsible work in maintaining public safety communications networks in the emergency communications center.
Employees in this classification are responsible on an assigned shift for the retrieval, processing, verification, origination, and relay of law enforcement information via two-way radios, computer terminals, telephones, and typed/written messages.
This work is performed under general supervision; however, employees are required to recognize the situations that require assistance from other personnel. Some knowledge of the electronic systems utilized by this position is required.After specific training, an Emergency Communications Operator I (ECO I) must also meet the requirements of ECO II (Police Dispatcher) and ECO III (Fire Dispatcher).
Minimum Training and Experience:
Graduation from high school and experience in the operation of two-way communication equipment and/or computer terminals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
