KALAMAZOO, MI – Public Safety Officers were sent to Nord Jewelers at 227 W. Michigan Ave. on January 5th, 2015 at 1:52pm after an employee reported a man stole a Rolex watch from the store.
The suspect portrayed himself as a customer, asked to see an expensive Rolex watch and fled the store with it on foot. An employee gave chase to the suspect, at which point the suspect indicated he had a gun on his person.
The employee obtained a vehicle description and plate number of the suspect vehicle. Det. Cory Ghiringhelli located the vehicle as it was getting onto I-94 east. Det. Ghiringhelli followed the vehicle into Battle Creek when deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Dept. and Battle Creek Police were able to stop the vehicle on Beckley Ave.
The suspect, a 24-year-old from the Detroit area, is currently lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail for Armed Robbery and is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday. The stolen watch was recovered on the suspect’s person. No weapon was located.
