Semi loses load temporarily shutting down M-53 in Sanilac County

SANILAC COUNTY, MI – On January 14th, 2015 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sanilac Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call about a semi-truck and trailer that had lost its payload on the roadway. semi-truck

According to Deputy Rob Wendling, the semi-truck was on N. Van Dyke (M-53) south of Bay City-Forestville Road and was carrying a crane extension boom. The load had shifted on the trailer when the driver stopped to avoid a vehicle that was turning into a private drive.

The driver of the semi-truck stated he was enroute from Elkton to Toledo, Ohio to deliver the equipment. The driver contacted Rooney Crane Service out of Bad Axe for assistance.

Once Rooneys were on scene, Sheriff’s Deputies closed M-53 down to one-lane for approximately 2 1/2 hours. Rooneys were able to lift and re-position the crane extension and the driver returned on his way.

No property damage or injuries resulted in the incident.
