LANSING, MI – State health officials have released few details but they are reporting that the first flu related death to a child in Michigan has occurred. It is the first death of an adolescent in southeast Michigan this year.
While this the first child death related to the flu in Michigan, there have been nearly dozen or more adults who have died.
The Michigan Department of Community Health did not release the age of the child or where they died, citing privacy concerns.
Health officials believe the outbreak of the flu seems to be declining based on their latest statistics showing just 41 people hospitalized due to the virus through January 10th. That’s down from 140 new hospitalizations two weeks earlier.
