Flint Township Police Officer shot Friday evening during Traffic Stop

FLINT, MI – On Friday, January 23rd, 2015, a Flint Township Police Officer was shot during a traffic stop on Miller Road near I-75.Flint TWP

The incident happened shortly after 10:30pm in the Home Town Inn parking lot at G3277 Miller Road.  The officer was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle in the parking lot of the inn.

The driver of the vehicle that was stopped is 54-years-old.  During the traffic stop a scuffle broke out between the driver and the officer.

The driver of the stopped vehicle pulled out a gun, firing multiple shots at the officer, striking him. The officer then called for backup. Both the officer and backup officers returned fire hitting the driver.

The officer and the driver are both listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

The injured officer has been with the Flint Township Police Department for 2 years.

Police from Burton, Grand Blanc Township, Flint, Clayton Township, Mt. Morris Township, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, and Michigan State Police all responded to the scene.
