FREDONIA TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday, January 29th, 2015 at approximately 6:30am Calhoun Co. Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 13 Mile Road and K. Drive South in Fredonia Twp. in regards to a single vehicle accident involving injuries.
Further reports indicated that the vehicle was up against a tree and contained two occupants, a male driver and female passenger who were pinned inside.
Personnel on scene were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Fredonia and Marshall Township Fire Department, along with the Marshall Area Firefighters Ambulance Authority and the Calhoun County Road Department.
The vehicle in question was a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer silver in color and was traveling northbound on 13 Mile Road where it veered off on icy roads and went into the ditch and struck a tree. Icy roads and high speed appear to be factors in the crash.
The driver, identified as Christopher Forest Hayes, 24-years-old, from the Ceresco area was airlifted by West Michigan Air Care to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo and is in critical condition. The passenger, identified as a Ashley Caroline Houle-Redner, 24-years-old, also from Ceresco was pronounced dead on scene.
The incident remains open and under continued investigation by the Calhoun County Accident Investigation Team.
