KENT COUNTY, MI – An elderly couple from Hastings were killed on Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 on M-37 in Calidonia.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash that happened at approximately 9:08 a.m. just south of 100th Street SE when the driver of a northbound vehicle lost control and collided with a southbound vehicle.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, John Snyder, 75-years-old, and his wife Marlene Snyder, 73-years-old, were both killed in the accident.
The investigation showed that a north bound 1997 Oldsmobile 88LS lost control after hitting some slush on the paved shoulder. The vehicle came back onto the road and then crossed the center line and directly into the path of a south bound 2014 Honda Pilot. The vehicles collided in the south bound lane. The Honda came to rest on the roadway, while the Oldsmobile ended up in the ditch on the west side of M-37.
The driver and passenger in the southbound vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Icy road conditions are believed to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
