Head-on Collision Kills Washtenaw County Corrections Officer

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, MI – A head-on collision near Saline shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 13th, 2015, claimed the life of a Washtenaw County Corrections Officer.Chad Hilborn

The incident happened on Michigan Avenue near Arkona Road in Bridgewater Township when a Pontiac G6, driven by Chad Hilborn, 33-years-old, crossed the centerline and hit a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by James Austin.

It is with great sorrow and deep sadness that the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office informs you of the death of WCSO Corrections Officer Chad Hilborn. Chad died this morning shortly after 7:30 a.m. as the result of a multi-car crash, which occurred near the corner of Michigan Avenue and Arkona Road in Bridgewater Township.

Hilborn was pronounced dead at the scene. James Austin, the driver of the pickup truck, was airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital via Survival Flight in critical condition.

Hilborn had been with the sheriff’s office since 2011.

Hilborn is survived by his wife, a Washtenaw Metro Dispatch employee, and their two young children.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for his wife and children, ages 4-years-old and 8-months-old.  In less than 8 hours over $15,000 has been raised.
