ALPENA, MI – The home located at 119 Long Lake Avenue in Alpena is a total loss after fire ripped through it over the weekend.
All that is left on this Monday is a burned out shell of what had been a home.
As temperatures had plummeted on Sunday morning, fire crews were called out to the blaze around 8:30am that had the structure fully involved.
Houses on that portion of Long Lake Avenue were built close together. Once on scene, the fire crews had to work to save the home next door.
That structure sustained some damage from the fire. It will take a while for that home to thaw out from all of the ice that formed on it from water being poured on to it in the subzero temperatures.
Crews from the Alpena Fire Department were assisted by Maple Ridge Township crews.
Fire crews did have problems in fighting the fire. They had a difficult time with a frozen fire hydrant and equipment freezing up.
No injuries were reported by those living in the home. Everyone got out safely. However, one fire fighter did seek medical treatment for possible frostbite.
The fire’s cause is still unknown at this time.
