FLINT, MI – A Flint man, Alphonzo Collins, 26-years-old, is behind bars and is learning a lesson in technology. Police tracked him down by the cell phone that he allegedly stole.
On Saturday, February 21st, 2015, just after 2am, the B Squad night shift commander was downtown when a woman flagged him down and told him that her phone had been stolen from her purse while she was at a club in the 400 block of S. Saginaw St.
The officer was able to use the phone’s own cellular technology to track the movement of the suspect. He then coordinated a team of officers and was able to apprehend Collins who had fled several miles from the scene of the crime.
After the victim’s phone was recovered from the suspect, officers arrested him and he was taken to the City Jail. The officer was able to personally return the victim her cell phone bringing this incident to a happy ending.
Alphonzo Collins has been charged and arraigned for Larceny in a Building.
