FLINT, MI – Flint Police have arrested and charged four people in connection to what authorities believe were retaliation shots being fired in connection to a drive-by shooting that occurred on Monday, February 23rd, 2015. Flint Police Officers were involved in a shootout with the suspects.
Flint Police Officers were conducting surveillance on Tuesday, February 24th, at 9:45pm in the 6700 Block of Orange Lane near Bellcreek.
Officers observed a suspicious vehicle and approached the vehicle to investigate.
The vehicle rammed an Officers vehicle and the occupants of the suspicious vehicle began firing shots at that Officer. Flint Police Officers returned fire.
Three suspects fled from the vehicle on foot. Within minutes all three suspects were in custody. Two suspects were transported to a local hospital for gun shot wounds and were in good condition. The third suspect was not struck and was transported to the Flint Police Department and lodged in jail. There were no Officers injured in this incident. The two injured suspects have since been released from the hospital and were lodged in jail.
Surveillance was being conducted in this area due to an incident the previous night in which shots were fired into an occupied home during a drive-by shooting. Although there were nine people inside the residence at that time there were no injuries reported.
Flint Police had received information that at least one person in the home at the time of the first incident could identify the suspect, but that person would not come forward and report to police what they knew.
It is believed that the second incident, in which shots were fired at Flint Police, was a result of an attempt by persons related to the first incident to retaliate against the suspects of the drive by shooting.
Derion Payne, 17-years-old, has been charged and arraigned for Assault with Intent to Murder, Discharge of a Firearm in or at a Building and Felony Firearm for the incident on February 23rd, 2015 in which shots were fired into a residence in the 6600 block of Orange Lane.
The following suspects have been charged and arraigned for the listed charges for the incident that occurred on Tuesday, February 24th, 2015, in which shots were fired into a police vehicle near Fleming and Barbara.
