DETROIT, MI – Bassel Abdul-Amir Saad was sentenced on March 13th, 2015 to 8-15 years in prison for the punch to soccer referee, John Bieniewicz, that killed the man in July of 2014.
John Bieniewicz, 44 years old, who was punched by Bassel Saad, died from the injuries sustained by Saad during an adult soccer game that was being played in Mies Park in Livonia on Sunday, June 29th, 2014.
Saad, 36 years old, of Dearborn, who was facing the charge of second degree murder in the death of Bieniewicz , pleaded guilty to a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter in February of 2015.
Bassel Saad apologized during the sentencing after John Bieniewicz’s family spoke in court about Saad’s actions that killed their family member and what it has done to their lives.
Saad was also ordered to pay $9,265 restitution to the victim’s family.
