KALAMAZOO, MI – On Thursday, March 12th, 2015, at approximately 1:47 a.m., Kalamazoo Police Officers responded to Interfaith Homes on a report of a male subject knocking on an apartment door and looking into the windows.
Dispatchers were able to determine the identity of the suspect and located two outstanding warrants for his arrest.
When Public Safety officers arrived on scene and made contact with him, the suspect provided the officers a false name and attempted to walk away.
Officers grabbed a hold of the suspect as he began reaching for his waist band. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody. Located next to the suspect on the ground was a loaded 9mm handgun. After a file check on the firearm, it was determined to be stolen out of Berrien County, MI.
The 37 year-old Covert Township resident, was arrested on the charges carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, resisting and obstructing arrest, felony firearm, possession of firearm while intoxicated, conditional bond violation and the outstanding warrants. The suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail pending review of this investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
