ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI – On Friday, 05/29/15 at approximately 9:30 PM, Deputies from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 26th St. near Baseline Rd. in reference to a two year old child who had been missing since 9:00 PM.
The parents of the missing two year old had indicated that the child had been playing outside while they were doing yard work and they noticed that he was no longer in the yard at approximately 9:00 PM. The parents, along with other family members searched for the child and called Allegan County Central Dispatch after they could not locate him. Due to the young age of the child, a K9 Deputy from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and a K9 from the Michigan State Police responded to the scene with the responding Deputies.
The initial responding law enforcement personnel searched for the two year old for approximately one hour without successfully locating him and called for additional resources for assistance. The additional resources included two additional K9’s from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, an additional K9 from MSP, Troopers and Detectives from MSP, Deputies and a K9 from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, a K9 from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, an officer with the Plainwell Department of Public Safety, officers from the Allegan Police Department, personnel and equipment from the Pine Grove/Gobles Area Fire Department, Allegan Fire District, Wayland Twp Fire Department, and the Allegan County Search and Rescue Team, Life EMS, and a helicopter from Air Care.
The search area covered open farm fields and wooded areas within a mile of the residence and emergency responders had to deal with intermittent rain storms during the search. At approximately 4:00 AM, Deputy Ben Haas from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office and his K9, Medo, located the child in a wooded area approximately ¼ mile west of the residence. When the child was located, he waved at Deputy Haas and he wanted to pet Medo. The child was uninjured and remained in good spirits while he was checked out by medical personnel on scene.
