Blue Water Bridge will reopen all lanes July 8th, 2015

LANSING, MI – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Blue Water Bridge Canada (BWBC) are wrapping up the resurfacing project on the original span of the Blue Water Bridge, now the westbound span. The contractor faced some paving issues that have since been resolved, allowing the bridge to reopen in one week.Blue Water Bridge

MDOT invested $4.05 million in the resurfacing project, with Canada investing $3 million. The work will preserve the safety and reliability of the bridge.

The westbound span was closed March 29, with both directions of traffic shifted to the eastbound span throughout the project. Approximately 14,600 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

While all lanes in each direction will be reopened, there will be intermittent, short-duration lane closures to allow crews to paint pavement markings on both spans. The dedicated lanes for NEXUS, F.A.S.T., buses and wide loads will be open immediately for the westbound span and as soon as restriping is completed on the eastbound span.
