It is believed that the two had just left a party in a 2000 Ford Mustang Convertible when police spotted them driving in a reckless manner near John R and Long Lake. Troy Police tried to pull over the car but the two men fled. Police attempted to stop the vehicle but were unable to before it slammed into a light pole. Prior to the accident, Troy police were calling off the pursuit because of the high rate of speed that the two were traveling in.
The 19-year-old, David Kedzie from Sterling Heights, was the driver of the vehicle. He died at the scene. The 20-year-old, from Troy, was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The vehicle was so badly damaged that it had to be removed from the crash site on two flatbed wreckers.
Hundreds of residents and business owner lost power due to the accident.
Authorities believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
