DETROIT, MI – Detroit Police have raided the Sunoco Gas Station at the corner of 8 Mile and John R for selling drug paraphernalia in relation to Heroin and Crack.
The station is shut down effective immediately. There is a large yellow sticker on the front door informing the public of the issue.
The owner of the station, Mike Ajami, has had a heated exchange with Chief James Craig because he feels he is being singled out. Chief Craig and the Detroit Police Department are sending a strong message that this type of activity will not be tolerated in the City of Detroit any longer.
The station owner has made statements that every gas station sells those types of items. It is expected that other places of business are in the cross-hairs and will get the same type of visit from authorities.
An expedited hearing is scheduled for Friday, July 24th, 2015, between the City of the Detroit and Mike Ajami to get the business back open as quickly as possible. Chief Craig has stated that the city wants every business to be successful but not when they are being a ‘bad neighbor’.
UPDATE: This business, after negotiations with the City of Detroit, was allowed to reopen on Friday, July 24th, 2015. The owner has agreed to stop selling drug paraphernalia and promises to install security cameras.
