DETROIT, MI – On Friday, September 4th, 2015, the 6th and 8th Precincts along with CoCo from Mason & CoCo in the Morning Show hosted a Family Affair Movie Day at the Don Bosco Hall on Detroit’s westside. Bridging the Gap

Children of all ages enjoyed a free movie presentation (The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1) and received back to school supplies (back packs, paper, notebooks, and much, much more). A Mobile Desk Dentist was also available onsite.

The purpose of this event was to raise awareness about school safety and to offer safety tips for children and parents when traveling to and from school. Every child was provided a whistle and instructed to blow it loudly in case of an emergency.

Eighth Precinct’s Neighborhood Police Officer Tanda Rawls -Owens stated, “By blowing their whistles children are able to alert the community that they need help.” A special thanks to all the Sponsors and Community Partners who made this day possible. This is yet another great initiative for Bridging the Gap – The Community and Detroit Police working together.
