Law Enforcement and emergency personnel responded on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015, at around 3:30p.m., to the west side of Lake Leelanau near Kelenski Point in reference to a man that had gone under the water and did not resurface.
Upon arrival deputies contacted the people on the boat involved and a immediate search did not locate the individual. The regional dive team was contacted to assist in the search.
At approximately 7:30p.m., the dive team located the victim’s body in approximately 12-15 feet of water.
The victim is identified as John Calvin Gleason, 56-years-old, from Lake Ann in Benzie County.
An investigation showed four people, two men and two women were on the sandbar near a boat that began to drift away. Upon attempting to swim to the boat one male subject experienced difficulties and went under the surface and was not seen again.
