DETROIT, MI – A man’s body has been discovered in a sewer on Chalfonte Street near Sorrento on Detroit’s west side.
Family members of a 19-year-old who has been missing since Tuesday, July 6th, 2015 believe that it is the body of their relative Osean Lockett, Jr.
The young man’s body was pulled from the sewer at about 6:10pm on Saturday, September 5th, 2015. Relatives of the missing teenager did recognize clothing on the body of that person.
The body was discovered in the manhole by Water and Sewage Department employees who were doing regular maintenance Saturday afternoon.
As word spread of the finding, a large crowd started to gather. Officials were trying to be very respectful while working to remove the body from the manhole. Authorities tried to shield those nearby from seeing the body being retrieved.
Brenda Burton dropped her son off at a west side BP gas station on July 6th, 2015 at about 3:30p.m. She has not seen nor heard from him since. Lockett had just started his first day working with a Neighborhood Service Organization summer youth program on the 6th of July when he disappeared.
The family of Osean have searched through numerous vacant houses, down alleys, and through thick brush in multiple empty lots on the city’s west side.
No official identification of the body has taken place at this time. Officials will have to use dental records to officially identify the victim because the body was so badly decomposed.
No further information is available at this time. Check back for any updates.
