Police were called to the Crazy Horse Strip Club on the city’s southwest side around 2:00am Monday morning to a report of shots fired. The club is located on Michigan Avenue at Lonyo. An incident that started as an argument – possibly over a woman – inside the club and then moved outside where gunfire erupted.
Reports are that the shooter was outside of the strip club waiting for the aspiring rapper.
At least two people were shot. One of the victims, Dex Osama, 26-years-old, was shot twice. Once in the upper chest and stomach. Witnesses say he ran to a nearby Sunoco gas station for help. The other victim was shot in the elbow. Both were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where Osama was pronounced dead.
No one is in custody at this time for this crime.
Based on information from Twitter, Dex Osama was gaining a large following. One person posted “Damn Dex was about to take off
@DexOsama rip”. Many are expressing their disbelief online about the murder. Hundreds of tweets started pouring in once news got out concerning the shooting and who was involved.
Then there are those who follow whats trending, who had never heard of Dex Osama, were also expressing their condolences. They were then looking up and listening to his music on YouTube.
In April of 2015 it was reported that rapper Meek Mill had co-signed Dex Osama. But both Meek Mill and Lil Durk have paid tribute to him on social media. It is reported that Dex Osama became the talk of social media after firing a gun during his “Heavy” video shoot. Meek Mill took notice. What is disturbing is that in several photos online, Dex Osama is seen with various guns.
Meek Mill took to Instagram after learning that Osama had been killed. “Damn RIP YOUNGIN….. Had a lot of talks with you about getting out them streets and chasing ya dreams! I really believed in you and seen you putting on for Detroit! RIP @dex_osama for all my fellow young kings coming up tryna make it out, take ya time and think about where you want ya life to go! MAY GOD BLESS HIS SOUL! Never let them streets shatter ya dreams!!!”
It was on this very same day in 1996 that Tupac Shakur was gunned down. He, however, laid in a medically induced coma for six days before he died. Shakur died on September 13th, 1996 in Las Vegas Nevada at the age of 25.
It appears that the streets of Detroit did shatter the hopes and dreams of yet another young up and coming rapper.
