George Assaf, 66-years-old, the owner of Stanley’s Market, was found dead inside of his store.
A suspect was arrested nearby by Michigan State Police, who had responded to the area to assist. A gun was also located upon further searches of the area.
Jawone Watkins, 18-years-old, has been charged and arraigned in the death of Mr. Assaf. Watkins has been charged with 1st Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Felony Firearm.
Surviving are his wife, Ragida Assaf; children, Mariam Assaf, Jomana Najjar, Elias Najjar, Tricia Assaf, Reema Assaf, John Najjar, Georgina Assaf; grandchildren, Faith Assaf, James Groth, Mason Groth; brothers, Abdullah Assaf, Assaf Assaf, Bahij Assaf; sisters, Mariam Assaf, Naima Assaf. Mr. Assaf was preceded in death by his brother, Chebli Assaf.
Friends may visit the family from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reigle Funeral Home. A Trisagion Service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church 4133 Calkins Rd., Flint, MI. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
