Plane Crash in Kimball Injures One

KIMBALL TOWNSHIP, MI – A 64 year old man, Douglas Widmar, of New Baltimore was injured last night, Thursday, October 8th, 2015, as he tried to land his ultra-light airplane.police

According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, Widmar was taking off in his ultra-light aircraft at about 6:00 p.m. Witnesses say they saw the plane gain an altitude of 100-150 feet when the nose dipped once. The plane then nose-dived toward the ground, landing wing first, then flipped over before landing right side up on the airstrip, located in the 700 block of Sturdevant Road.

A 911 call was made and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded, along with Kimball Township Fire and Rescue and Tri-Hospital EMS.

Widmar was transported by Tri-Hospital to Lake Huron Medical Center in Port Huron. He was then flown to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with multiple injuries. At this time, he is listed in critical condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted. They advised they will begin their investigation into the crash this morning.
