GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Two men are in custody today following two armed robberies which took place Sunday, October 18th, 2015.armed_robbery1

Grand Rapids Police Officers were called to Ron’s Quick Stop in the 1100 block of Bridge St NW in reference to an armed robbery that took place at approximately 8:16 p.m.

The store clerk advised that a black male suspect, wearing a gray winter hat,  entered the store and placed a silver hand gun on the counter and demanded money.

The suspect fled the store, got into the passenger side of a dark 4-door sedan with “distinguishable characteristics” and fled the scene.  The suspect(s), passenger and driver, fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash.

Approximately 25 minutes later, police responded to a Subway Restaurant in the 2200 block of Plainfield Ave NE at 8:40 p.m. on yet another armed robbery.

A black male, with the same description as in the first robbery, entered the restaurant, pointed a silver handgun at the clerk, and demanded money.  Once the cash was obtained, the suspect left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Minutes after the robbery at the Subway Restaurant, a police cruiser equipped with an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) alerted officers of a stolen vehicle that matched the same description as the vehicle from the first armed robbery with the “distinguishable characteristics”.

Two suspects from that vehicle were taken into custody.  Evidence was obtained from the suspect vehicle that matched both robberies.

The Grand Rapids Police Department’s Major Case Team is investigating if these suspects are involved in other robberies.  Anyone who may have additional information is asked to call 456-3400 or Silent Observer at 774-2345.  Silent Observer may also be contacted at confidentially at www.silentobserver.com
