3 Charged in Murder of Saginaw Teen (Updated)

SAGINAW, MI – On Sunday, October 18th, 2015 at 8:48AM Saginaw County Central Dispatch received a call stating that there was a dead body on the playground at Fordney Park on Braley Street in the City of Saginaw.

Saginaw Police Officers responded and confirmed the 911 call. The deceased body of Laquavis Cooper, 19 years old, was found.

Police have arrested three males in connection with the homicide.

Jamal Reid, 23-years-old, Jason Wrenn, 26-years-old, and Charlie Wilson Jr., 17-years-old, all from Buena Vista Township have all been charged with an open count of murder and conspiring to commit that crime.

Cooper was from Saginaw but he had recently moved to the Grand Rapids area.

Investigators believe robbery was the motive in this crime.

Each suspect is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.

This is a joint investigation between Saginaw Police Detectives and the Michigan State Police. Their departments are still interviewing witnesses regarding this case and the investigation is on-going. Anyone with information about this incident should call CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-422-JAIL.

Mr. LaQuavis Tre’Devon Cooper passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the age of 19 years. He was born July 22, 1996 in Saginaw, Michigan to Laquitia Cooper and William Bibbs. He was a resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan.Laquavis Cooper

LaQuavis attended Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan. He was employed by NBHX Trim U.S.A. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He loved to make music, do videos, play his games and paint cars. LaQuavis had a smile that would brighten the room. His grandmother, Barbara Amos said “every time LaQuavis came over he would ask for a dime because he didn’t want to break a bill.” LaQuavis had a good heart and he will be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Khalil Cooper, parents, Laquitia Cooper and William Bibbs, step-mother, Kamari Bibbs, grandparents, Barbara Amos, John (Karen) Perkins; great-grandmother, Estella Bibbs; two sisters, LaShayla Cooper and Janiyah Johnson; seven brothers, William Bibbs, Jr., Rayshawn Cooper, Jonathan Ray, Dequantiaze, Dontray and Jeremiah Bibbs and Kayveon Canada; four aunts, Angelic Deleon, Tameka Perkins, Tori Tinglan, and a very special aunt, Sharlene Amos; three uncles, John Henry Cooper, Jr., Darnell Prince and John Perkins, Jr.; many cousins including his close cousins, Rico Bibbs, Derrick Conaway, Carthion Bibbs and Robert Payns; his girlfriend, Veronica Gaddy, mother-in-law, Stacy Rasco; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Myvon Williams, Javonta and Taylyn Rogan.

LaQuavis was preceded in death by his brother, E’Zaveeon, grandmother, Barbara Perkins and grandfather, John Henry Cooper.
