EMMETT TOWNSHIP, MI – According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the man allegedly confronted his father with a shotgun at about 5:00 Wednesday, October 28th, 2015, in the 4000 block of Emmett Road. He then physically assaulted his father and left the property.
The 27-year-old came back to the property around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29th, 2015, went to a barn on the property and barricaded himself inside.
Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office responded, along with members of the Yale Police Department and Michigan State Police. They were told the suspect had a shotgun with him.
A perimeter was set up and negotiations began to try to get the suspect to come out.
After about four hours of talking with the man, two shots were heard coming from inside the barn shortly after 11:00 p.m. Deputies and officers went inside and found the suspect had shot himself. He was transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to McLaren Port Huron Hospital, and then transferred to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment of his wounds.
The father of the suspect received minor injuries from the earlier assault.
No other injuries occurred during the incident, which remains under investigation.
