Cass County Crash Sends One to Hospital

LAGRANGE TOWNSHIP, MI – Sheriff Joseph M Underwood Jr. reported that his deputies investigated a crash on Cherry Grove Rd near Peavine St in Lagrange Twp on Friday, November 20th, 2015, at 7:48 a.m. fatal crash

The deputies reported that a vehicle driven by Eddie Ruiz, 62-years-old, from South Bend, In., was stopped at the stop sign on Peavine St. Mr. Ruiz did not see the North bound vehicle driven by Raymond Brickheimer, 20-years-old, from New Buffalo.

Mr. Brickheimer tried to miss the vehicle but was unable to and struck the vehicle that Ruiz was driving.  Mr. Brickheimer then went into the ditch and struck an electric pole.

Mr. Brickheimer was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for minor injuries. Mr. Ruiz did not sustain any injuries.

Safety belts were used and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Wayne Twp Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Cassopolis Fire Department, and Pride Care Ambulance.
