DETROIT, MI – One person was killed in a multi-car crash that happened on I-94 near Van Dyke on Saturday, November 28th, 2015.
Police continue to investigate the deadly accident that happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday that shut down the eastbound lanes of I-94 on Detroit’s east side for hours.
Two cars and a truck were involved in the crash.
Andre Thurmond, 22-years-old, was killed in the crash and two others were taken to the hospital. Their injuries were minor.
Thurmond’s Chevy Impala was stopped on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes near Van Dyke when it was hit by a Mercedes-Benz. The driver of a GMC pickup rear-ended the Mercedes-Benz, hurling that vehicle into the Impala.
The driver of the pickup was arrested on a charge of DUI.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz fled the scene on foot. Police also found open liquor bottles in that vehicle.
