Michigan State Police makes Accomplishment in Detroit Rape Kits

LANSING, MI – In September, the Michigan State Police Forensic Science and Biometrics and Identification divisions completed the forensic testing of 10,087 sexual assault evidence kits discovered in Detroit in 2009. rape-kit

This effort resulted in 2,616 associations in the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), including associations to either criminal cases or individuals in 35 states and the District of Columbia.

Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans announced Tuesday, that although the County is managing its financial rebound, he identified $1 million to dedicate to Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy’s office to help investigate backlogged rape kits.

Evans has been working to dig Wayne County out of the large financial hole that Bob Ficano made with his mismanagement.
