JACKSON, MI – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning business owners of a potential scam. The Sheriff’s Office has investigated at least 3 incidents where a subject claiming to be from Comcast has entered a business and asked to use the businesses’ phone to verify the Comcast account. Comcast has verified that this is not a legitimate activity.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to call 911 to report this activity. Thus far the motive for these individuals is unknown. The activity in and of itself is suspicious. Businesses are the only known target to date and some have permitted the suspect to access areas that members of the public would not
normally be permitted to enter.
In all of these incidents the persons involved had no credentials or official looking uniform. Sheriff Steve Rand recommends that anytime someone desires access to your home or business that you call and verify their identity and if there is any doubt call 911. Anyone with information related to this suspicious activity can call Sgt. Bryan Huttenlocker at 768-7931.
